According to the graphical depiction, here is what happens in a single minute over the internet. 20 new victims of Phishing, 135 Botnet infections, 47,000 app downloads, 204 million e-mails sent, 6 new articles on Wikipedia, 1,300 new mobile users, Amazon makes $83,000 in sales, 100 new accounts are created on Linked in and 320 on Twitter, 100,000 tweets, 277,000 Facebook logins, 61,000 hours of music heard via Pandora, 20 million photos viewed on Flickr with 3000 more uploaded, 2 million searches on Google and finally, 1.3 million videos viewed on Youtube with 30 hours of them being uploaded.

3 Axis Turns Phone Camera into Joystick

One of the caveats to having an onscreen joystick on your smartphone is that it usually blocks up a good portion of the screen. While it’s not much of a problem on a tablet, on smaller devices such as the 3.5″ iPhone, it can be quite frustrating not being able to see some parts of the action while playing. Well, a research group at Keio University has managed to come up with a solution to the problem. Called a 3-Axis analog joystick, it is an elastic device that is placed over the front facing camera of your smartphone.

The elastic device features small markers that can be tracked by the camera, and by tracking these markers, the phone can register their movements as input for the games. Using this will let players have a physical joystick (better than a virtual onscreen one) and not have to block the display at the same time. And users also don’t have to worry about having to smudge their screen with their dirty/oily thumbs. The joystick can also be placed onto the phone’s rear camera to function in the same way, expect that the player will be controlling it from the other way instead.

Quite a cool concept that I’d like to see being used one day, though it’ll definitely require support from game developers if it were to be successful. Check out a video demonstration of it below.

If you’re a fan of Sony’s VAIO notebooks, it looks like they’ll be receiving a refresh in the near future. According to some leaked images and details that surfaced recently, Sony will be releasing a new lineup of VAIO C series notebooks this summer. The notebooks will be available in 14″ and 15″ models, with the 14″ models featuring Intel’s Ivy Bridge processors, while the 15″ ones retaining the current Intel Sandy Bridge processors.

Other than that, no other details have been revealed, but the images show the notebooks arriving in a variety of colors: teal trim, silver with black trim, pink, and a black and orange trim. The notebooks themselves look pretty sleek, so let’s hope Sony doesn’t disappoint with the internals. If the new VAIO C notebooks are arriving in summer 2012, Sony should be revealing some juicy details about the portable computers soon. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted.

Just read on, The plot seems interesting with Agent Vinod (Saif Ali Khan), an Indian intelligence RAW agent discovering the shocking plan of a terrorist group to kill millions with a nuclear suitcase bomb. Drawing a connection between a series of events that happen across the world, AV sets out on a mission traversing some 9 to 10 exotic countries of the world. In the midst of his mission, Agent Vinod happens to meet undercover Pakistani ISI Agent Ruby (Kareena Kapoor), who pretends to be a doctor. Agent Vinod and Ruby have a common goal, but whether they will be able to crack the mystery and come to the rescue of people forms the rest of the story. ‘Agent Vinod’ sets out to revolutionise filmmaking in India. Sriram Raghavan’s ode to the spy genre, his continued love affair with ‘70’s Hindi cinema- ‘Agent Vinod’ is a genuine attempt at entertaining in a sensible manner. But it somehow falls short of being declared as a brilliant piece of work.

The first 30 minutes of the film are intriguing and simultaneously puzzling. It is bifurcated into sub-plots which make it somewhat confusing. Kareena’s character seems to have been inserted in the drama only to ensure that the there is the stereotypical romance in the narrative. Saif Ali Khan described ‘Agent Vinod’ as Bond-meets-Bourne-meets-TinTin, but the makers seems to have neglected the finer nuances and perhaps that is the reason why the film fails to impress. Dialogues are witty and breathe life into the film. The editing is slick and perfect to make the film seem crisp.
Watch ‘Agent Vinod’ for its stylish presentation, it hasn’t got anything else to offer.

Stripping his shirt to show off a chiseled six-pack, but decently desi enough to keep the pants on, and sensitively shed a tear. At his stylish best, Saif is the spy-to-die-for.

And while a random bronzed bikini babe makes a mandatory appearance, she's not missed as Kareena is sexier by far; and effortlessly does the sometimes mysterious, sometimes vulnerable act.
Ram Kapoor rolls his 'R's (for a Russian accent) as smoothly as his character trades arms, drugs and flesh. Prem Chopra weeps heartily for a dying camel but shows a mean-streak with good ol' 70's villainy. Adil Hussain, cut 'n' d(r)ied, plays the devious Colonel. Gulshan Grover pops up, only for a mujra, it seems. Director Sriram Raghavan, who's made fine mind-twisters (Ek Haseena Thi, Johnny Gaddaar), attempts a spy-thriller this time. His obsession for retro reflects here again, whether it's casting Prem Chopra and Gulshan Grover, references to classics, or infusing soundtracks from the bygone era. Aaah! Nostalgia! 'Agent Vinod' is slick and visually stylized, but loses steam at times. The movie is a tad long and often creatively compromised - for style over substance. With well-designed stunts and car chases, there are very few high points or shock value. One being the background score (Daniel B George) that changes beautifully with the locations.

Let's state the fact here - Agent Vinod may not have turned out to be an ultimate entertaining experience that one would have hoped for. Still, it has its moments where one does feel that if only could have gone an extra distance, it may have been memorable. Still, despite not really the kind of soundtrack that one would remember six months down the line, it is still good enough to ensure that it helps the film's narrative. Songs like 'I'll Do The Talking Tonight', 'Dil Mera Muft Ka' and 'Pungi', though not extraordinary, keep up the pace while the theme track is an absolute killer. As for the one that may stay on long, there is 'Raabta' that one can play on a repeat mode and feel content.

Is Targus Cases Compatible with New iPad?

Targus will offer replacements for cases not compatible with the new iPad

Just yesterday we reported that there were some instances where Apple’s Smart Cover and third-party cases did not play nicely with the new iPad. According to some user complaints and personal experiences, this basically involved the new iPad not responding to the magnets on the cases which did not put the tablet to sleep when closed, or waking it up when the case was opened.

While Apple has yet to officially acknowledge this issue, Targus has apparently started offering free replacement cases to customers who are currently experiencing this problem after it was reported that a customer reported that the company had replaced his Targus Slim case. This was acknowledged by a Targus spokesperson who stated that “Targus will replace any of the new iPad cases at no charge.” At this moment, it looks like Targus is the only manufacturer to officially offer replacements, no word from Apple or other manufacturers yet.

Mirrorless Camera Concept by Canon

It has been rumored and suggested that Canon could be working on a mirrorless camera system of their own which will pit them against other players in the market such as Nikon, Olympus and Sony, all of whom have already released mirrorless systems of their own. While such a system would no doubt be welcomed by Canon fans around the one, one particular designer by the name of David Riesenberg has decided to come up with a Canon mirrorless camera concept of his own dubbed the Canon AE-D, a design that appears to have been inspired by the Canon AE and AE-P, and would come with features such as

Full Frame – Might as well be the pinnacle of 35mm. Especially if a new lens mount is required. Future proof.

18.1MP sensor from the 1DX – This camera will not rob sales from the 1DX on form factor alone so it makes sense to use an existing sensor instead of a new one. Plus, it will make an excellent pair to someone with an 1DX.

CM-D Lens mount – That was the source of most headaches for me. Naturally, I wanted to design it around the EF mount for reasons that I don’t need to state but it proved to be very problematic. Both the flange depth and actual mount diameter meant that the camera needed to be much thicker and possibly taller to accommodate EF lenses. So this “CM-D” lens mount is roughly FD sized which keeps the dimensions close to the original and enables lenses that are not too huge.

50mm f/1.0L “Kit Lens” – Fast primes. What can I say? I love them and they probably the best match to a system as I outlined above. So their existence is no less realistic that all the other items here. While I am far from being an optics expert, I designed this 50mm lens based on a combination of schematics of the Canon 50mm f/1L. FD f/1.2L and Leica f/0.95 so it should be a realistic representation of the dimensions of such a lens. It also features an aperture ring for direct control as well as an Auto mode for shutter priority or auto mode.

Viewfinder – Design wise, I knew from the start that I wanted to incorporate the prism hump of the AE cameras. It is a prominent feature that without it, the context of the design gets somewhat lost. At the same time, it is obviously not a technical requirement in mirrorless cameras so making it detachable while housing the EVF felt like the optimal combination of form and function. After all, if this is a camera for photographers, a viewfinder, even if electronic, is a must.

Flash + Flash + Flash – I regard flashes as an integral, must have feature of any system and I didn’t want to handicap its use in any form. Not when taking snapshots with the built-in one and not when the viewfinder is either attached or not.

It would appear that David has put a lot of thought and effort into this design and so far we have to admit that not only do we like what we see, we love some of the features that David has suggested be included with the camera. iPhone 4 Exploded

There have been plenty of exploding phone stories in the past, and today it looks like we’ve got one more to add to the mix. Mashable recently posted an article detailing the experience of a woman who had her iPhone 4 “burst into smoke” while she was sleeping in a hotel room. The iPhone 4 was plugged into an Apple charger on the nightstand next to the bed when early in the morning she woke up to a strange smell and noticed sizzling and popping noises from the phone. As the room filled up with smoke, she used her laptop case to pick up the phone and throw it into the hotel room sink.

It wasn’t mentioned what caused the iPhone to behave this way, but it sure seems like a problem with the phone’s battery as opposed to a problem with the phone. Such manufacturing defects are bound to happen, especially when you take into account how many iPhones Apple has sold.

Apparently when she told Apple about the experience, they refused to publicly acknowledge the incident to other iPhone owners (though they did give her a replacement iPhone 4) – hence her bringing the story to Mashable.
